The October “Armchair Film Adventure” at Coos Bay Public Library will be held a week early, at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2nd in the Myrtlewood Meeting Room. This month’s destination is a Globe Trekker tour of The Czech Republic & Southern Poland.
Justine Shapiro tours Prague Castle, the city’s most famous landmark and the seat of power since the 9th century, then travels by Skoda, the Czech car, to attend a rave in Teplice. After a day in nearby Karlovy Vary, a 500-year-old spa town with 12 natural springs, she canoes to her next destination, Ceske Budejovice, and catches a train into Poland. She sees Poland’s most important religious icon, the Black Madonna, in Czestochowa; tours Krakow, the ancient royal capital and modern-day cultural center; and pays an emotional visit to Oswiecim (Auschwitz), the notorious concentration camp. Finally, she heads into the Tatra Mountain Range for a glimpse of a traditional, rural way of life.
